4. Derek Wolfe:
This potential move is in the same line of thinking as signing McCoy. The Ravens need a defensive end for their 3-4 defense that can collapse the pocket. Derek Wolfe is 30 years old and is coming off a seven sack season for the Denver Broncos. It was his fourth season with at least five sacks. He’s an explosive defensive end, who is multi-dimensional. You are getting a space eater and a pass rusher with a big 6’5″ frame. Bringing in a player like Wolfe will make the Ravens defensive front more complete and more prepared against pass happy teams.
In nine seasons he has recorded 299 tackles and 33 sacks. He has a solid reputation as an impact player on the defensive line. There was some speculation before the trade deadline that Wolfe could be dealt to the Ravens. This is a move that would be similar to when the Ravens brought in Trevor Pryce (who also happened to be from the Broncos). It would be a move that would help all of the pass rushers in Baltimore. Getting pass rush from a 3-4 defensive end will really help the outside linebackers be more productive.
Defensive end is a big need for the Ravens. If they don’t address it in free agency, they will have to spend a draft pick on one. This would be a signing that would check a need off the list. Wolfe could also provide a few solid years for Baltimore. Wolfe probably won’t set the market at defensive end. He should be a little more expensive than McCoy, however it’s a deal that probably has more upside.
