The Baltimore Ravens should be aggressive in NFL Free Agency. Here are three reasons why:

1. The time is now:

The Baltimore Ravens have the reigning MVP of the National Football League on a rookie contract. The time is now for the purple and black. Because they have put together a mostly young and affordable team, and they’re not paying their quarterback a huge chunk of the salary cap space, the Ravens have more financial flexibility than they have had since before the Joe Flacco era. Eric DeCosta has to go for it now, because he may never get a better opportunity to spark something special with a key signing or two.

Last offseason it looked like the Ravens were headed for a competitive rebuild. They lost a few big name players and the roster had undergone a fairly substantial youth movement. Lamar Jackson was going into his first full season as a starting quarterback and obviously the expectations weren’t set nearly high enough.

DeCosta made a couple of big moves anyway. Bringing in Earl Thomas and Mark Ingram was his way of going for it. DeCosta fueled a win-now approach when he traded for Marcus Peters and gave him a well timed contract extension. If DeCosta was going for it in 2019, he has even more reason to go for it now.

The Ravens were one of the best teams in football in 2019. The Ravens should be Super Bowl contenders. They are the biggest threat to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. If DeCosta makes a big splash in free agency, he can get the team what it needs to win a championship. The Ravens are close. DeCosta has to do whatever he can to make sure the Ravens win a Super Bowl while Jackson is still on his first contract.
