The Baltimore Ravens have some exciting rookies. Who has the best set up on day one?

The Baltimore Ravens have some very compelling rookies. J.K. Dobbins, Devin Duvernay and James Proche have all been very talked about since the 2020 NFL Draft a couple of months ago. Defensively the Ravens are expecting big things from Patrick Queen, Malik Harrison and Justin Madubuike. So which Ravens have the best set up?

You might think that it’s J.K. Dobbins. After all, Dobbins is going into a pretty low pressure situation. The Ravens have three really good running backs and they don’t need him to be a star right away. That’s also what is working against Dobbins.

There is also a lot of competition for Ben Bredeson and Tyre Phillips. At this point the offensive line starters in between Ronnie Stanley and Orlando Brown Jr. are anybodies guess. The point here is that Bredeson, Phillips and Dobbins will have to prove their way on the field.

The one thing that Dobbins has going for him is that he can make an impact rotating in and out of the game. For Phillips and Bredeson, getting on the field depends on getting a starting job. These two offensive linemen could be competing for the same job for more than just the 2020 season and Ben Powers, D.J. Fluker, Bradley Bozeman and even Patrick Mekari all figure into that competition. The stakes are highest for the rookie offensive linemen.

On offense the best situation has to be the one Devin Duvernay finds himself in. The Ravens don’t exactly have an overly experienced receiver group. Because Duvernay is a different type of player than Miles Boykin, Boykin’s production doesn’t threaten his role in the offense. If things go as planned, Duvernay will get a lot of playing time in the slot while Boykin and Marquise Brown line up on opposite sides.

Duvernay walks into an offense that needs a player with his skill-set. There is plenty of room for Duvernay in this offense. While James Proche will give him a push, Duvernay was the third round draft pick for a reason. If the Ravens have one goal on offense in 2020, it might be to get the most out of the third round investments in Boykin and Duvernay.

Patrick Queen is going to be an instant starter. He’s got a great defensive line in front of him. It’s not a bad situation to start your career as a first round pick. The more I think about it though, the more I think Justin Madubuike is the best set up defensive rookie. Queen is under the most pressure. Queen needs to shine right away. Madubuike can figure things out and grow into the job as his rookie season progresses.

Madubuike should get plenty of playing time but as a rotational player. He’s in a low pressure situation with plenty of opportunity. If he impresses as a rookie, he’ll be able to become the big star in a couple of years. Calais Campbell and Derek Wolfe aren’t long-term solutions. The Ravens have a lot of talent on their starting 3-4 defensive line. They also have a lot of age.

The Ravens have a tendency for being right about this type of a player. Madubuike was an underrated third round pick going to play defense for the Ravens. You’ve seen this movie before. On offense Duvernay has the perfect set up. Defensively, Madubuike is sitting pretty.
