Baltimore Ravens: Top 10 running backs in franchise history
10. Byron “Bam” Morris
We begin at the 10th spot with an NFL journeyman in Bam Morris. Morris is a player you may have forgotten about. There were other players who could have gotten the honor of the 10th spot. Ricky Williams was an option but he only had one year in Baltimore and he had less than 500 yards. Bernard Pierce was an option as well, but ultimately didn’t make the list because he didn’t do much as a pass catcher. It was tempting to put Le’Ron McClain here, but he was technically a fullback. only played for the Ravens in two years of his seven season career. Morris was with the Ravens from 1996-1997 making him one of the original members of the purple and black.
Morris has the eighth most rushing yards in franchise history. He put up 1,511 yards in two seasons. To put this in perspective he basically had Gus Edwards kind of numbers in his first two seasons. The Ravens have only been around since 1996 so there are only so many flat out stars at the position. Morris was good, not great in the first couple years that Baltimore had football back.
9. Javorius Allen:
Allen was a player who was never really a number one running back, but he had some good production with the Ravens. Allen is the 12th leading rusher in Ravens history but he also pitched in as a receiver. In four years Allen had 340 rushing yards and 129 receptions. He was a solid player who chipped in multiple ways. The 2015 season was not great for the Ravens to say the very least but it was the highlight of Allen’s career. With Justin Forsett sidelined for a chunk of the season, Allen was asked to be a big contributor in the offense.
Allen contributed 514 rushing yards as well as 353 yards receiving. It was one of two seasons with the Ravens where Allen was able to have 500 rushing yards and over 200 receiving yards. Allen was a serviceable player who made flash plays.
8. Chester Taylor
Chester Taylor had a nine year NFL career and the first four of them were in Baltimore. The best years of Taylor’s carer were actually with the Minnesota Vikings. In 2006 he was a real workhorse for the Vikings and had 1,216 yards. For the Ravens his best statistical season got him just over 714 rushing yards. Taylor was a good change of pace back who did a good job helping in the passing game. He had 105 receptions as a member of the purple and black.
