Patrick Queen player comp from Ravens past: Ray Lewis

I am not saying Patrick Queen is going to be the next Ray Lewis. Nobody should put that kind of expectation on any player coming into the NFL. What I am saying, is that Queen fits the mold for the Ray Lewis type of linebacker. He doesn’t have a huge build and his game is built on sideline to sideline athleticism. Ray Lewis was considered undersized coming out of Miami and that shows how players like Lewis changed how we see the linebacker position.

Queen and Lewis have incredibly similar builds. Lewis was a 6-1 240 pound linebacker. Queen is listed at six feet and 230 pounds. If you watch Queen at LSU the tape wouldn’t look much different than Lewis with the Hurricanes. Lewis was a do it all linebacker because of his athleticism and his incredible tackling ability. Lewis had 2,059 total tackles and 41.5 sacks and 31 interceptions which is another way of saying there wasn’t a way he couldn’t impact the game as a linebacker.

Queen has the same versatility.  Queen is a player who could become the leader of the Ravens defense. Nobody measures up to the leadership that Lewis provided, but Queen could make the Pro Football Hall of Famer proud. Queen is a football smart linebacker who has a good feel for the game. He’s got instincts and we haven’t really seen that much of a sample size. Queen is this good without a ton of experience at LSU. It’s not hard to see him having a full command of the defense in time. He may not go down as one of the greatest of all-time, who knows. What we do know is that this type of player has really worked out for the Ravens.
