The Baltimore Ravens have high hopes for their first-round draft choice Patrick Queen. If his practices are a sign of what’s to come he’ll be a hit.

When you think of the Baltimore Ravens franchise you think defense: fast, physical, and winning. And within that defense what is the one position on the Ravens you traditionally think of? Middle linebacker and rightfully so thanks to #52.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted the 20-year-old Patrick Queen out of LSU to be the next Ray Lewis. And no, I am not comparing Queen to Lewis, but what I am saying is that the Ravens organization is hoping for a 10+ year career here in Baltimore filled with speed, physicality, and winning.

A few weeks into training camp and the reports are that Patrick Queen is turning heads already. “He wants to be right. He studies and he’s very conscientious. For a rookie with very little reps this off-season he’s doing better than anticipated,” Coach John Harbaugh said.

Patrick Queen is pegged to be the week one starter at middle linebacker. “It’s understandable that Queen will make some mistakes, but that he just wants to see the rookie make them at 100 mph. It’s clear Queen will have no problem with that assignment, said Defensive Coordinator Wink Martindale.

One must remember with Queen: he is raw. He was drafted out of college at the age of 19 and although he won the National Championship with LSU last year, he didn’t start the season on the field. He was a backup and earned his way into the starting lineup. Obviously that is a great sign but again, he only has a handful of games started in his career.

All of the tape and film work the coaching staff did this off-season which helped them draft Patrick Queen in the first round is now beginning to show itself off on their fields. Is there a better feeling than that this time of year for Harbaugh and DeCosta?
