Training camp is almost over. Here is a projection of an ideal Ravens 53 man roster (with two practice squad players designated to make it 55).

This is a roster projection for the Baltimore Ravens season opener against the Browns. Not being in training camp, it’s hard to make a perfect assessment here. Based on what we know this is my take on everything. I did some guess work and I also leaned towards what I would do. This is a projection but it’s through the lens of what I would do, what I seem to be the most reasonable moves.

Quarterback:

  1. Lamar Jackson
  2. Robert Griffin III

The main thing here is that I don’t think the Ravens will lose both Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley if they put them on the practice squad. Accepting the chance of putting them on the practice squad allows the purple and black to have luxuries else where in the roster. The Ravens have one of the best backups in Robert Griffin III and they may just have the best starter in Lamar Jackson. If something were to happen to Jackson that kept him out for a while (knock on wood and hope it never happens) Griffin III could keep the Ravens afloat for a while. If the Ravens had to turn to Huntley or McSorley, they would be in trouble. Three quarterbacks made sense last year. They can talk themselves into it again this year, but I can’t justify it.

Running back and fullback

  1. Mark Ingram
  2. Gus Edwards
  3. J.K. Dobbins
  4. Justice Hill
  5. Pat Ricard

This one is simple. The Ravens have four running backs that they like. Mark Ingram and J,K. Dobbins will probably split the mantle of being the starter while Gus Edwards is next in the feeding order. Keeping Justice Hill isn’t just about this season. When Ingram is gone, it could end up being the Dobbins and Hill show. Hill has potential and the Ravens will find ways for him to provide value if they have to. Pat Ricard is the starting fullback. Ricard is going to get an elevated role this year and you’ll understand why when we talk about the tight ends.
