Linebackers, defensive backs and specialists

Outside linebacker

  1. Matt Judon
  2. Pernell McPhee
  3. Tyus Bowser
  4. Jaylon Ferguson
  5. Chuancey Rivers

Chauncey Rivers ended up being the lone 2020 undrafted free agent to make the 53 man roster. Rivers beat out John Daka for the last outside linebacker spot. In the end he has too much potential to keep him away from the roster. This group otherwise is unchanged from last year. Judon and McPhee are your starters. McPhee gets less snaps than Judon though and Jaylon Ferguson will get plenty of chances on the field. The Ravens have to hope that they get enough pass rush out of this group but they also need to hope that their young talent is better at outside contain against the run.

Inside linebacker

  1. Patrick Queen
  2. Malik Harrison
  3. L.J. Fort
  4. Otaro Alaka

This is what you would expect. I did waffle between Alaka and Board. In the end I think Alaka is the better tackling linebacker and I think he gives you a little more. This may be the most exciting group on the roster though. When you look at the fact that two of these players are rookies with high ceilings, you have to be encouraged. There is a short list of Ravens draft picks that have gotten me more excited than Patrick Queen.

Cornerback:

  1. Marlon Humphrey
  2. Marcus Peters
  3. Tavon Young
  4. Jimmy Smith
  5. Anthony Averett

The Ravens have a very fluid secondary. What do I mean? I mean that they have safeties who can play cornerback and cornerbacks who can play safety. Keeping five cornerbacks is a lot like keeping two tight ends, it’s not forcing a spot just because. The Ravens have three cornerbacks who can line up anywhere and play great man coverage in Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters and Jimmy Smith. Tavon Young is a great nickel cornerback and Anthony Averett is a backup who is sticking around. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Ravens added Brandon Carr back to this list at some point. For now though, five is going to have to do.

Safety:

  1. Chuck Clark
  2. DeShon Elliott
  3. Anthony Levine Sr.
  4. Geno Stone
  5. Jordan Richards

Chuck Clark is your starting strong safety. DeShon Elliott is your starting free safety. Levine Sr. is your do it all defensive back who can be put where ever he is needed on defense and special teams. Stone is your developing safety for the future and Richards is your special teams player/ last resort defensive back. It’s not what the Ravens planned on for most of the offseason but Earl Thomas got himself cut with his antics and the Ravens new plan should work.

Specialists:

  1. Justin Tucker
  2. Sam Koch
  3. Morgan Cox

Nothing needs to be said. These players are here every year and they’re just as dependable as ever.

Practice Squad designated call ups

  1. Tyler Huntley
  2. Eli Wolf

dark. Next. 3 predictions for the Ravens defense

The Ravens have to be ready for the nightmare scenario where they have three quarterbacks. Huntley has been impressive and I think he is next in line because of how much upside he has. The Ravens can keep Wolf as their third tight end on an “if needed” basis which is how you have to look at the two extra spots.
