Defense/Special Teams:

Analysis– Predicting week one defenses is already hard, without seeing anything on either side of the ball,  it is hard to make a determination. Without a preseason and normal offseason, you have to give the advantage to the team with the returning coach and core. Defensive Coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, has a lot on his plate this game with a talented Cleveland offense. Wink will use his creativity to make coverages hard for Mayfield to interpret pre-snap and will send blitzes that Mayfield typically won’t see.

New Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods has his hands full with Lamar Jackson and company. Without seeing a Joe Woods coordinated defense, it is hard to know what to expect. The Browns have a good defensive line but are young and inexperienced everywhere else. With a dominant Ravens team ready to play, look for their defense to be marginally better in this game as the Ravens have a history of coming out of the gate strong under coach John Harbaugh.

Prediction:

Ravens D/ST- 350 total yards, 20 points, 4 sacks, 2 INTs, 1 FR

Browns D/ST- 450 total yards, 30+ points, 2 sacks, 1 INT
