The Baltimore Ravens beat the Houston Texans. Here’s the good, bad and ugly:

The good:

The best part of the Baltimore Ravens victory is that defensive stars stepped up. Marcus Peters had one heck of an interception where he stretched out and made a play. Marlon Humphrey forced a fumble where L.J. Fort recovered and got a touchdown. The Ravens offense wasn’t dominant in the first half. The defense got the job done and dictates the terms of the game. It really started when Houston had a failed fourth down conversion.

Lamar Jackson didn’t look like he was playing on air but you can’t play the Cleveland Browns every week. The one thing that stands out all throughout the game is his efficiency as a passer. In the first half he was 13-17 passing for 146 yards and a touchdown. He only had four incomplete passes there and a couple of them came when he was just throwing the ball away. Was Jackson lights out to start this game? No. Yet he avoided bad plays most quarterbacks would have fallen into and he looked sharp. Let’s be honest the Texans looked better than we thought they would.

The Ravens put up 30 points for the second straight week. That isn’t a bad way to start the season. The Ravens were able to hold the Texans to under 20 points. That’s a good start for a defense that did get tested in this battle. One thing that stood out is how well the running backs looked in this game. Mark Ingram scored on a direct snap play where the blocking was perfect. Gus Edwards seemingly has his best game against the Texans. J.K. Dobbins was able to keep his balance on an incredible scamper. Dobbins had a huge run in garbage time as well. The offense wasn’t overly smooth in this game but it got the job done. The game was never really in question, though it was a real fight for most of the game.
