Between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs, who has the edge at each position?

Quarterback: Even

This one is going to be the biggest debate here, yet the Ravens and Chiefs have the same edge at quarterback. Mahomes and Jackson are different, however I consider them equals. It’s them and everybody else at the quarterback position, much like it’s the Ravens and Chiefs than everybody else in the AFC.

With Jackson’s strides forward as a passer both last year and early in this season, it’s hard to put Mahomes ahead of him. Both players have are amazing and we can appreciate both players at the same level. What you can tell from the teams’ records since these quarterbacks popped on the scene is that it’s been very hard to beat them. Jackson and Mahomes have talent that almost makes it unfair. Don Martindale has the same sized challenge that Steve Spagnuolo does on the other side. It’s different preparing for Jackson than it is Mahomes, yet it’s just as difficult.

Running back: Ravens

The Ravens get this one fairly easy. Clyde Edwards-Hellaire is an impressive rookie running back. The Ravens have a flashy rookie running back of their own in J.K. Dobbins. along with Mark Ingram and Gus Edwards. The Chiefs have one really good back with a couple of okay players to put with him. The Ravens have three fairly evenly talented players. It wouldn’t be surprising for any of the Ravens’ running backs to have a 100 yard game. The Ravens broke the all-time record for rushing yards in a season in 2019 and they added Dobbins. It’s also worth noting that the last time the Chiefs played the Ravens Mark Ingram had a huge day with over 100 rushing yards. This may be the position group where the Ravens have the biggest margin of an edge in this match up of elite AFC teams.

Wide receivers: Chiefs

This one isn’t close. Marquise Brown may become the next Tyreek Hill, but Hill is already a superstar. Sammy Watkins may be the best number two receiver in football. Mecole Hardman can take the top off of the defense just as well, if not better than Hill can. The Chiefs have a ton of talent here. Not only do they have a superstar number one receiver yet they have more than enough talent around him to let Mahomes attack the whole field.

The Ravens have a less proven group of receivers. It’s going fairly well early in the season, yet it’s hard to put this group of players on the same level as their counterparts from Kansas City. Marquise Brown is good. Miles Boykin and Willie Snead have been solid in the early stages of the season. We’ve seen flashes from Devin Duvernay as well. The Ravens have a lot less star power here though and it is obvious.
