Linebackers: Ravens

Matt Judon may not be the dominant pass rusher you want him to be on the franchise tag, yet he’s a versatile linebacker that adds talent in favor of the Ravens. Tyus Bowser is off to a strong start. Patrick Queen is playing at a high level and has become a play-maker early in his NFL career. Malik Harrison has been solid and L.J. Fort may be off to the best start of his career. Fort scored a defensive touchdown last week against the Houston Texans and has been in the right place a lot in the past two games.

The athleticism of the linebacker position in Baltimore is exactly what Eric DeCosta was hoping it would be when he put the team together. The Chiefs have decent linebackers. Anthony Hitchens leads their team with tackles through the first two weeks of the season. The Ravens have gotten crazy good value from their linebackers this season. They get the edge here and it’s not much of a contest.

Cornerbacks: Ravens

Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters, Jimmy Smith. Case closed right? The Ravens have two All-Pro cornerbacks with a very good player in Smith that’s doing a bit of everything for Baltimore. The Ravens have the best cornerback grouping in the NFL. The Chiefs are okay here, but let’s not pretend they have this kind of premium talent. Losing Tavon Young hurts, but the fact that the Ravens still have this much of an edge at this position shows you how good they have it with their cornerbacks.

Safety: Chiefs

I like Chuck Clark. Tyrann Mathieu is the biggest star at safety in this match up. Matthieu is a player that Clark may end up emulating. While DeShon Elliott may not be a problem so far, I have to give the edge to Kansas City at the safety spots. Matthieu is an All-Pro safety for a reason. When it’s close star power gets the edge.

Special teams: Chiefs

Justin Tucker vs. Harrison Butker. Sam Koch vs, Tommy Townsend. When you look at the special teams in this match up it’s good vs. good all the way around. The reason I give the Chiefs the edge here is that I trust Mecole Hardman more as a punt returner at the moment than I do James Proche.
