8. New England Patriots, 2-1 (11)

Reports of the Patriots’ demise appear to be greatly exaggerated. They can win any number of ways, and that makes them a real threat. That, and a healthy Cam Newton.

7. Baltimore Ravens, 2-1 (2)

Big fall for the Ravens after dropping a Monday night clash with the Chiefs, but their weaknesses were exposed. They have a chance to get back on track this week against Washington, but they better do their part against that defensive line, or it could be another struggle.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson is a tremendous talent but needs to elevate his game when things aren’t working well around him. That’s the next step in his progression. And the defense needs to generate some pressure without blitzes putting things at risk every play for smart teams to exploit.

There is a lot of talent and pride in this organization. They need to tap into it going forward.

6. Tennessee Titans, 3-0 (7)

They needed six field goals to beat the Vikings, but they got six field goals. That wins. This team knows how to compete and win close games. That will take them far.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers, 3-0 (5)

They beat the Texans, putting on a great effort in the second half on both sides of the ball. Their defense puts them in a position to win games, and Big Ben does the rest, along with their running game.
