Sam Koch:

This category could easily be labeled Ravens special teams but, Sam Koch is the standout right now. Rookie returners James Proche and Devin Duvernay have been solid on returns. The coverage units have found success and haven’t let any large returns yet. In last week’s game though, the biggest play potentially of the entire season thus far occurred.

The Ravens started to drive, but it stalled out at the Washington Football Team’s 43-yard line. They lined up to punt when Sam Koch caught the snap, turned, and threw it to Boykin for a first down. Over the last few years, Koch has completed a handful of fake punts to Chris Moore and now is 7/7 in his career.

light. Must Read. Baltimore Ravens superlatives at the quarter-season mark

He is now the most accurate passer in NFL history. What makes this the most impressive was that this ball was thrown perfectly. On a fourth and nine, the Ravens needed every bit of nine yards. The ball that Koch threw to Boykin was thrown way before Boykin turned around and was right at his hands. What’s more impressive is that as soon as Boykin caught it he had the first down and had enough separation, because of the timing of the throw to fight for another few yards. With three minutes left on the clock, this was a big play call and a risky one. If they missed Washington could’ve easily got back into the game.

Koch who is the longest-tenured Raven is a very valuable player. He brings value any time he is on the field. He’s a reliable holder on kicks and has a great repertoire with “The Wolfpack” in kicker Justin Tucker, himself, and long snapper Morgan Cox. He is one of the best punters in the league and extremely valuable to the Ravens. His consistency is very impressive, he can place the ball wherever he would like. The Ravens are very lucky to have him. To see why he’s the best watch the video here.
