Take-home points from Baltimore Ravens win over Eagles
By Darin McCann
How about that defensive line:
• Calais Campbell was terrific today, and it was interesting watching him line up directly over the center in place of the missing Brandon Williams. The team did give up 194 yards on the ground today, but 114 came on two runs, one by quarterback Carson Wentz, and one by Miles Sanders before he fumbled into the end zone for a lucky-bounce score. Missing Williams and Derek Wolfe certainly had an impact, but I felt like we saw interesting penetration today that we hadn’t seen a lot this year.
• A big reason for that increased penetration was no doubt a beat-up Eagles line. The team also dropped two pretty-certain touchdowns, and Zach Ertz offers very little more than catching the ball and falling down. They just don’t offer much resistance, especially when Sanders is taken out of the equation.

But Carson Wentz can frankly do things physically that a lot of quarterbacks simply can’t do, and he created some huge plays against the Ravens. Travis Fulgham is also a nice player, but Wentz made some spectacular plays to get him the ball. I give Wentz a ton of credit for his performance in this game.
• Justin Tucker. You are a dog, sir. He nailed three big-boy field goals, including one from 55, and the Ravens don’t win this game without him.
• Jackson was not bad today. He looked like he was throwing the ball better in the second half, but penalties and inconsistent rushing efforts, just kept putting them behind in down-and-distance. He finished 16-27 for 186 yards, and generated another 108 yards and a touchdown on the ground. By the way, after his three-yard performance last week raised questions around the football landscape, he looked himself running again today. He’s just off in some of these throws, and seemingly getting a bunch knocked down at the line. Is a lot of this a problem with the line right now? Yes. No doubt. But the Ravens need the MVP to be the MVP and elevate this offense. There are signs of it. Maybe we’ll see it in two weeks against Pittsburgh.
