24. Atlanta Falcons, 3-6 (25)

They are playing better since their coaching change and got a nice win this week against Denver. It’s still very hard to trust this team for any length of time, but they do seem to be getting a little better. Let’s see.

23. Carolina Panthers, 3-6 (21)

They are playing better this season than most of us thought possible, but they are still sitting at 3-6, showing they are a little light on talent still. They fought Kansas City until the end, but Patrick Mahomes was just too much for them, as he is for many. The future looks bright.

22. New England Patriots, 3-5 (24)

Scraping by to beat the Jets is something. I mean, it’s better than not beating the Jets. Still, this team right now is short on talent, from single-season departures to long-term changes. They need a win against the Ravens next week in prime time, which might be asking too much.

21. Detroit Lions, 3-5 (20)

They got run over by Dalvin Cook and the Vikings, and their franchise quarterback left in the concussion protocol. Frankly, they’re just not that good, despite a few “unicorn” performances of unexpected competency. This is another team that screams for real change.
