@CJ_Arrington1 asks: Your thoughts on Deshon Elliot stepping in on short notice? How has he played in your opinion? And do you think playing Devin Duvernay more over Miles Boykin will help the offense?

Answers: Elliott has had some missteps, though I’d be hard-pressed to find you a bad thing to say about his play overall. He didn’t come into this year as the expected starter at free safety, however, Earl Thomas forced the Ravens’ hand and it was “Joker” time. Elliott has exceeded my expectations.

I was thinking that this would be a liability. He wasn’t. I think he has more heart than Thomas and while he may not be up to Thomas caliber as a player, he’s going to get there.

I keep talking about Duvernay being the cure to the lack of big plays in Baltimore. You know that I’m a Duvernay guy. I’ve also lost patience with Boykin. Boykin and Duvernay have the same number of receptions and Duvernay is getting more chances now. Duvernay averages 12.4 yards per catch. Boykin averages 10.9 yards. Duvernay’s longest reception has been 39 yards. Boykin’s has been 25 yards.

By the end of the season, I would expect Duvernay to have almost twice the number of receptions as Boykin. I bet you Boykin’s average stays where it is while Duvernay’s will get up to anywhere from 13-15 yards. Duvernay is on the rise. Boykin is who he was in his rookie season. You either get better or you get worse, right? That’s the point. You know how I feel about this one.
