2. Gus Edwards could be the bowling ball the Ravens need:

While I think J.K. Dobbins is the best running back for this particular matchup, Gus Edwards can carry his own. The forced combination of Edwards and Justice Hill could work in the absence of Ingram and Dobbins. Justice Hill really hasn’t been used so you know he has fresh legs. Edwards has only gotten 85 attempts, so you know he should have a lot left in the tank for this season. Edwards is a good running back. He’s averaging 4.4 yards per attempt. Before Dobbins started to flash star power, many fans were clamoring for more Edwards in the offense.

In the week 17 battle last year Edwards carried the ball 21 times for 130 yards. He averaged 6.19 yards as the Ravens beat the Steelers with mostly their backups playing in a meaningless game. It’s not quite the same situation, yet we know that Edwards can get some cooking done against the Steelers.

We know that Edwards can get in done in general. This is a running back who has had over 700 yards for Baltimore two years in a row. In 2018, he only had 11 games to get that done. Edwards is the epitome of consistency at the running back position.

This game is always one of the most physical battles on the NFL schedule. Who’s more physical than number 35? He brings the physicality and toughness that you need against the Steelers. Baltimore would have been getting some Edwards action one way or the other. Now the Ravens’ Flock is just in for a lot more of it.

Leaning on Edwards isn’t a bad thing. Would it help to be at full strength in the backfield? Absolutely. Dobbins would give the Ravens the speed to push the outside run against the Steelers. Dobbins would be able to beat the athleticism of the Pittsburgh defense. That’s not what we’re getting on Turkey Day, yet Edwards is still something to be thankful for. He may not be the hero we deserve but he could be the bowling ball we need.
