Going into their matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens are a bit banged up. They must rely on Gus Edwards to run them to victory.

There are plenty of players who need to step up for the Baltimore Ravens against the Pittsburgh Steelers such as Robert Griffin III in Lamar Jackson‘s absence. Honestly, RGIII could surprise us and quarterback a good game to secure a crucial win for this team. To do this he’ll need his supporting cast to bring their A-game and no one will be more pivotal to that than Gus Edwards.

Edwards has been one of the Ravens’ bright spots on an offense that has simply fallen well short of expectations this year. Along with J.K. Dobbins, who is likely out today, Edwards has powered Baltimore’s run game and been the backbreaker late in games through his punishing running style. Edwards has a healthy 4.4 YPC and has tied the team-lead for rushing touchdowns with three.

The man many know as “The Bus” (no, not Jerome Bettis) will go into this game as the top-dog in the backfield with Justice Hill backing him up, as the aforementioned Dobbins and Mark Ingram are out. With that status comes major responsibility and the Ravens will be counting on Edwards to carry this offense.

Thankfully, Gus Edwards has had some good success vs. Pittsburgh in the past:

In four career games against the Steelers, Gus Edwards has rushed for 244-yards while averaging a hefty 5.7 YPC. Pittsburgh boasts the league’s eighth-best run defense, allowing 103.4 YPG, however, they are giving up 4.3 YPC. This is something Baltimore should look to exploit, as getting the run game going against this defense will be key. Edwards is just the guy for this job.

With RGIII being a limited quarterback at this point in his career, it’ll be up to Edwards to make life as easy for him as possible. This will come from giving him plenty of carries and allowing him to beat up the defense. His punishing running style will take its toll on any defense and make him one play away from breaking a big one.

Tire out this defense with a big runner like Gus Edwards. This keeps the Steelers’ offense on the sideline and the Ravens’ defense nice and rested. It’s the recipe for a Ravens win.

In a game without Lamar Jackson, J.K. Dobbins, Mark Ingram, and Mark Andrews the honus will be on Gus Edwards to carry the load. The offense will almost be entirely set-up on what Edwards can accomplish during this game and in all likely hood he will be one of the biggest factors in deciding who wins this game.
