Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills: Answering your burning questions
Question 2:
@cancelpennies asks: On my read, the Bills offense seems to be pretty much opposite of the Titans run-first offense, Wink had a great game plan in Ten. What are the main changes you think he makes going into Buffalo?
Answer: I think you’ll see a similar game plan with a different looking list of snap counts for the respective players. This is a game you need Pernell McPhee a little less and fine uses of all your defensive backs and pass rushers a little more.
In the last game, McPhee and Yannick Ngakoue got basically the same amount of time on the field. Ngakoue is going to see more time on the field in this one if he’s good to go (Side note my favorite source for this is @Yoshi2052 on Twitter. He is a great follow for analytics. Check out his analysis when you get a chance).
You still want to do all the things that worked out so well against the Titans. It’s still important to play gap sound defense. It’s still important to have linebackers flow to the football and to tackle well, play assignment football, and all that good stuff. The Ravens can focus on run defense a little more like they would for a normal game and that’s a big difference here. The Bills run the ball, they just don’t lean on it.
In comparison to Ryan Tannehill, Josh Allen has more going for him. Allen creates more big plays. He’s got a more lively arm. Tannehill is a solid quarterback while Allen is a potential MVP. There’s a big difference there. The Ravens made the Titans one-dimensional and Tannehill couldn’t beat them. Now we have to see if Allen can top them. The Ravens just have to keep playing their best football to make sure they get the upper hand.
