New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard (87) completes a pass with pressure from Dallas Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson (37) in a game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, January 3, 2021, in East Rutherford.Nyg Vs Dal /

Sterling Shepard could be an option:

Yes, you heard that correctly. I believe the New York Giants overpaid Kenny Golladay by a lot with the four-year, $72 million contract they signed him to.

I am not entirely sure how the Giants are going to afford that $18 million per year contract plus the $21 million per year contract they just signed Leonard Williams to… especially when they will probably want to extend quarterback Daniel Jones in a year or two.

They will probably need to make space somehow. With that being said, they also need to protect their quarterback better. The New York Giants offensive line allowed 50 sacks last season, second-most in the NFL.

After signing Golladay to that huge contract and bringing in wide receiver John Ross, the Giants may be willing to trade one of their current wide receivers. Sterling Shepard or Darius Slayton could both be options, but Shepard has the higher cap hit of $9 million in 2021. Depending on when they trade him, it could save them anywhere from $4 to $7 million in cap space in 2021.

Now, Shepard is more of a solid number two than a number one. However, he would help the Ravens passing game. Plus, he has five years of experience, which is more than any of the Ravens’ current wide receivers. Shepard could be a solid option to line up across from Marquise Brown.

I would say Sterling Shepard and the Giants’ second-round pick (#10 overall) would be a fair trade for Orlando Brown Jr. They need the help on their offensive line and the Ravens could use a solid receiver like Shepard.

Other possible wide receivers to target in a trade: Anthony Miller or Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears. Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos. Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons. Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys. Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings. Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns.
