Baltimore Ravens: Ranking each AFC North NFL Draft Class
The Cincinnati Bengals:
The Bengals had a solid showing in the draft. They drafted Ja’Marr Chase early in the first round. Everybody kind of knew that was going to be the pick. They have a star receiver that you couldn’t possibly miss on if you tried. These are the moments where the Ravens are very grateful for Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters at the cornerback position.
The rest of the draft was solid. Nothing really blew me away. They got one of my favorite prospects in Joseph Ossai in the third round. My player comp for Ossai was Terrell Suggs so the idea that he fell to the 69th pick annoys me. I wanted him to wear purple and black.
I thought the Bengals reached a bit with the selection of Jackson Carman. He’s an offensive tackle out of Clemson. He’s solid, I’m just not wowed with him. Trey Hill is a prospect that would have been an interesting option for the Ravens at the center position. He’s massive but that’s about it.
Tyler Shelvin is a defensive tackle from LSU. He’s a little like Brandon Williams, yet he will probably chip in more as a pass rusher. He’s huge and hard to move. Getting him in the fourth round is a great value.
If Joe Burrow can play his first full slate of an NFL season, the Bengals are going to be a competitive team. They have a nice set of weapons for their young quarterback. That would have been true even if they didn’t take Chase with the fifth pick of the draft.
The Bengals may not be a great team in 2021 but they are building for the future. This could be a team that gets a couple of wins they probably shouldn’t get. Look out for the Bengals. They aren’t going to win the AFC North but they won’t be a bottom-five team again.
