Ravens: 3 standouts from Day 2 of 2021 training camp
By Justin Fried
2. James Proche II, WR, Ravens
The Ravens lost arguably their top wideout as Marquise Brown left practice early for “precautionary reasons.” But in his place, a new standout emerged.
Perhaps no player was as impressive as James Proche II was on Thursday as the former sixth-round pick hauled in a pair of touchdown grabs including what was possibly the play of the day.
Proche sprinted past cornerback Khalil Dorsey and made a diving catch in 7-on-7’s to secure the highlight-reel grab. It was one of a number of standout plays Proche made on Thursday.
Proche is facing an uphill battle this summer as he looks to earn a roster spot in a new-look wide receiver corps. Brown, Rashod Bateman, Sammy Watkins, Devin Duvernay, and Tylan Wallace are are all roster locks leaving likely one spot for the remaining receivers to fight for.
Proche is in the mix, but he faces competition from former third-round pick Miles Boykin and even the aforementioned Jaylon Moore who has been making his case.
The former SMU star could earn his way onto the roster if he continues to play like this. And if he can do this with Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley throwing him the ball, just wait until Lamar Jackson returns.
