4. Jake Verity, K, Ravens
Jake Verity isn’t making the Ravens’ roster. That much is already determined. Rather, on Saturday, Verity will be fighting for his NFL future with another team.
Verity is looking to become the latest Ravens kicker to find success elsewhere after the team helped develop him.
Others such as Robbie Gould, Stephen Hauschka, Wil Lutz, and Graham Gano have all followed a similar career path. Verity is hoping to be next in line.
The Ravens have reportedly been talking with teams about a potential trade involving Verity who is perfect on kicks this preseason.
The former East Carolina standout is one of the most notable kickers expected to be available next week and teams are already calling to gauge his trade value.
But all of that could disappear if Verity struggles in his final preseason outing.
Kickers have short leashes in the NFL, and that’s especially true for undrafted rookies just trying to make a roster. If a team is willing to give up a draft pick to trade for an undrafted kicker, they better be sure of their decision.
They don’t want a repeat of the Kaare Vedvik situation from a few years ago.
Verity needs to finish strong and prove his worth to teams around the NFL. He has little to gain, but everything to lose in tonight’s game.
