The Baltimore Ravens made their cuts to get down to 53 players on Tuesday. At the moment, their initial 53-man roster is set.

However, the group the Ravens have under contract now will not be the team that trots out to the field on Week 1.

While much ado is made about which players do or don’t make the final roster, the reality of the situation is that getting cut is rarely a figurative death sentence for these players.

Many will find their way onto the practiced squad, some will be re-signed within the next 48 hours, and others will be picked up off waivers by another team.

The NFL always has a place for talented players, even if it takes a couple of teams to find the right role.

The Ravens could look to scour the waiver wire for said talented players over the next day or two as they put the finishing touches on their roster.

As it stands, there are a number of players who likely won’t count toward the active 53-player limit come 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Players like Jimmy Smith, Miles Boykin, and Rashod Bateman are all candidates for the short-term IR list to begin the year. The same is true for tight end Nick Boyle who is expected to miss the start of the season.

While the team will likely use those roster spots to bring back players like Pernell McPhee, Anthony Levine, Eric Tomlinson, and Justin Ellis, they could also turn to the waiver wire to made an addition or two.

Let’s take a look at 18 interesting names the Ravens could target over the next 24 hours.
