Ravens: 4 players with the most to prove against Raiders in Week 1
By Kristen Wong
3. Ty’Son Williams, RB, Ravens
We speak for most fans when we say it was absolutely soul-crushing to hear about J.K. Dobbins’ and Gus Edwards’ season-ending injuries.
But Ty’Son Williams gives us a glimmer of hope.
The undrafted free agent could solidify his place as RB1 this game, especially when his challengers include the aging Le’Veon Bell, Latavius Murray, and Devonta Freeman.
Williams technically hasn’t recorded a single regular-season carry, but he’s got the speed and the willpower to break into this Ravens’ starting lineup and make an immediate impact.
Williams can take some solace in the fact that he’ll be playing with the best running quarterback in the league, and that he has at least some familiarity with the Ravens’ offensive system after spending last year on Baltimore’s practice squad.
No doubt the critics will be there, yelling loud and clear: ‘You’re undrafted, you don’t belong here.’
That’s why Williams has to have the game of a lifetime against the Raiders tonight. Who knows when he’ll ever get another chance quite like this.
Besides, as the oft-quoted saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Williams has four quarters to sweeten his future career with the Ravens as a reliable starting ball-carrier.
