Ravens: Odafe Oweh flashes his speed on first career NFL sack
By Justin Fried
The Baltimore Ravens have high hopes for Odafe Oweh both in his rookie season and beyond. And he wasted little time making an impact in his NFL debut.
The Las Vegas Raiders were knocking on the Ravens’ doorstep with under 10 seconds to play in the first half. Derek Carr took the snap from the 14-yard line, was pressured, rolled to his left, and was sacked from behind by the speedy Oweh.
Oweh showed off his incredible range and athleticism chasing Carr down for a huge sack at the end of the half. The Raiders were forced to settle for a field goal as a result cutting the Ravens’ lead to 14-10.
Carr and the Raiders were hoping to tie the game up before the half. But Oweh clearly had other plans.
Odafe Oweh is already making plays in his Ravens debut
The 31st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Oweh was seen as a project coming out of Penn State. Although he was one of the most athletically gifted players in his draft class, Oweh didn’t have the collegiate production that many of his counterparts had.
The 22-year-old didn’t record a single sack in his final year at Penn State and still needs time to grow and develop to reach his full potential.
That’s why the Ravens are using him in a situational role as a rookie. Evidently, it’s paying off.
Oweh already has more sacks in one game in the NFL than he did in his entire junior season at Penn State.
All eyes will be on Odafe Oweh as he looks to continue making a name for himself in his NFL debut.
