3. Latavius Murray, RB, Ravens
Latavius Murray has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in the team’s 34-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers back in Week 6.
In his place, veteran Devonta Freeman has transitioned into the de facto RB1 in the backfield, and he’s certainly exceeded expectations.
The Ravens also used the recently-released Le’Veon Bell as well as former undrafted free agent Ty’Son Williams, although the latter has been used sparingly.
But with Murray returning to practice on Wednesday for the first time since his absence, the Ravens could be set for a backfield makeover.
Murray was a limited participant on Wednesday and appears to be on track to play this Sunday. It will be interesting to see how the Ravens divide playing time upon his return.
The safe bet is to assume that Murray and Freeman will handle the majority of the workload. But how much will Murray eat into Freeman’s playing time?
Freeman has arguably been Baltimore’s most efficient running back this season as he leads the team with a healthy 5.2 yards per carry. He’s received nine or more carries in three of the last four weeks and played 58 percent of offensive snaps in each of the team’s last two games.
Will it be Freeman or Murray who sees the bulk of playing time? That much remains to be seen. For now, the Ravens are just happy to have another healthy body in their backfield.
