Baltimore Ravens nose tackle Brandon Williams has expressed his desire to stay with the team in 2022 — that is, if the Ravens still want him around.

The 32-year-old has spent his entire nine-year career in Baltimore and has played at least 12 games every season.

Despite having a subpar year compared to his previous seasons, Williams has helped the Ravens earn a reputation for having one of the best run defenses in the league.

Baltimore finished No. 1 in the NFL against the run this year, buoyed by the efforts of Williams, Calais Campbell, and others.

Over the hill and probably overpaid, though, Williams may be on his way out of Baltimore.

He will become a free agent this offseason along with many other players, at which point it’s up to the Ravens’ front office to decide who to let walk and who to re-sign.

Ravens DT Brandon Williams has an uncertain future on the team

Williams noted the situation was “out of his control” as the Ravens begin their cap space discussions behind closed doors.

The defensive line could see plenty of changes this offseason — the unit, as a whole, ranks as one of the oldest on the team, and Williams isn’t the only one whose future remains unclear.

Calais Campbell is also considering retirement, and Derek Wolfe is coming off a back injury that derailed his 2021 season. Justin Ellis is another pending free agent.

Heading into the offseason, the Ravens have needs at almost every position group, with the direst probably being the offensive line.

Amid speculation that Baltimore will pick an offensive tackle in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the team could also spring early for a defensive tackle. Georgia standout Jordan Davis presents a promising option with the strength and athleticism to fortify Baltimore’s interior defense.

If the Ravens are looking to rejuvenate their defensive line, Brandon Williams will likely have played his last snap in the purple and black.

As always, there’s a chance the Ravens want to bring Williams back for his experience and veteran leadership, but it’s out of Williams’ hands.
