The Baltimore Ravens disappointed in 2021. Now, of course, so much of their shortcomings could be blamed on injuries and other misfortune. Context has to be considered.

But as a whole, this was a team that had legitimate Super Bowl aspirations heading into the season, yet finished 8-9 and out of the playoffs. Things had to go wrong, even aside from injuries.

And that they did as a number of players on the roster fell short of expectations. For this list, we won’t be taking injured players into account so someone like Ronnie Stanley, who obviously didn’t meet expectations, won’t be blamed for his setback.

This is strictly looking at performance and players who failed to live up to the hype. With that being said, let’s take a look at six of the biggest disappointments for the Ravens this season.

6. Ty’Son Williams, RB, Ravens

Ty’Son Williams is a bit of a unique case and it almost feels unfair to place him on this list. But following injuries to the likes of J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hills, Williams was the lone running back left standing at the start of September.

Most expected Williams to step in and take on a prominent role in the offense, especially after a strong showing in the summer. But after receiving sizable work in the first few games of the season, Williams found a permanent role on the bench.

The former undrafted free agent was given just two offensive touches after Week 7 with the Ravens preferring the underwhelming duo of Devonta Freeman and Latavius Murray.

Again, it seems a little unfair to put Williams on this list given that he had no expectations a month before the season began. But he did have expectations early in September, and for whatever reason, he fell far short of reaching them.
