The Baltimore Ravens didn’t have many things to celebrate in their injury-riddled mess of a 2021 season, but one promising development was the emergence of wide receiver Marquise Brown.

Brown put together a career year this past season finishing with a career-high 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He became the first Ravens wide receiver since Mike Wallace in 2016 to record 1,000 yards in a single season.

But despite putting up the best numbers of his NFL career and the best numbers by a Ravens receiver in recent history, Brown isn’t satisfied with his season. He’s always looking to improve his game.

Brown spoke to reporters last week and described the elements of his game he still believes he needs to improve upon. It’s safe to say that he doesn’t believe he’s even close to reaching his ceiling.

"“I think everything. I want to get even bigger, stronger, faster. And just keep working on my route running. We’re getting moved around with the offense. work on my routes from the inside, work on my routes from the outside, work on contested catches, and just really everything that I possibly can get better at by the time September comes back around.”"

Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown believes he could be even better

Brown got off to a ridiculously hot start this past season recording six touchdowns in his first seven games. He was on pace for a monster season and was hoping to make a Pro Bowl push, but things went south pretty quickly.

The former first-round pick did play 16 of 17 games, but he failed to make the impact in the second half of the season that he did early on. Now, some of that could obviously be blamed on Lamar Jackson and the offense’s struggles.

Jackson wasn’t himself for a stretch late in the year and things didn’t get much better for the offense when Tyler Huntley was forced into the starting lineup. The Ravens’ QB and injury woes absolutely could have contributed to Brown’s slow second-half performance.

That said, Brown deserves to shoulder some of the blame too. The 24-year-old struggled with drops leading the team with a whopping seven, that’s not including his three fumbles either.

Brown has battled drop issues throughout his career and now has 13 over the last two seasons. If he’s to take the next step in his career, he needs to become more reliable and consistent.

The Ravens have to be pleased with Marquise Brown’s development in 2021, but even he knows he still has a long way to go before he can truly reach his ceiling.

It’s nice to see him acknowledge that even after a promising 2021 campaign.
