Two Ravens coaches named to East-West Shrine Bowl staff
By Kristen Wong
Two Baltimore Ravens coaches will get the opportunity to preview this year’s top draft prospects in the East-West Shrine Bowl in February.
It’s not the Senior Bowl, but the Ravens will take it.
Defensive backs coach D’Anton Lynn will serve as head coach for one squad while outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins will serve as the defensive coordinator.
Lynn and Wilkins are two of the league’s best rising assistant coaches, and working at this event should boost their respective careers for the future.
But the East-West Shrine Bowl is more about the players than coaches, and the Ravens will get to start their pre-draft process by scouting seniors at the event.
Ravens coaches will get an exclusive look at draft prospects in the East-West Shrine Bowl
There will be four days of practices leading up to the game, giving Baltimore’s coaches plenty of time to evaluate players and their potential fit on the Ravens.
These players typically end up going undrafted or picked in later rounds of the draft, but from time to time, teams can find a few gems. For the Ravens, Patrick Mekari and Tyler Huntley played in the East-West Shrine Bowl before finding a home in Baltimore.
There’s already some speculation of who the Ravens may have their eye on in the upcoming event. Those playing for Lynn include Oklahoma guard Tyrese Robinson, Oregon offensive lineman George Moore, and Boston College offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom.
The Ravens have dire needs at the offensive and defensive lines next season, so Lynn and Wilkins will be focused on finding players who, at the very least, could hold a rotational role in the trenches.
Other NFL teams’ coaches were also invited to work at the event, but the Ravens have two of the best in Lynn and Wilkins and they won’t waste this precious opportunity.
The Ravens’ future is in good hands.
