The Baltimore Ravens are bringing back a familiar face to their coaching staff as they have reportedly hired former linebacker Zach Orr to be their new inside linebackers coach.

It was reported on Monday that Orr, who spent last season working under former Ravens assistant Joe Cullen as Jacksonville’s outside linebackers coach, would be returning to Baltimore.

Orr previously worked on the Ravens coaching staff from 2017-2020 as a defensive analyst after his playing career was tragically cut short due to injury.

Now, Orr has made his way back to Baltimore as he’ll be taking over for Rob Ryan who spent just one season as the Ravens’ linebackers coach.

It’s nice to see Zach Orr back with the Ravens again

Signed as an undrafted free agent shortly following the 2014 NFL Draft, Orr made the 53-man roster out of training camp and went on to appear in 15 games as a rookie.

He returned in 2015 and played all 16 games serving a vital role on special teams. It wasn’t until the 2016 season that he was thrust into a starting role on defense.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Orr put together an outstanding season finishing with 132 tackles, five passes defended, three interceptions, and a forced fumble en route to being named second-team All-Pro.

The sky seemed to be the limit for the former North Texas standout, but that lone season as a starter would prove to be his last. Orr announced his retirement just a few weeks after the season ended citing a congenital neck/spine condition that cut his campaign short.

Orr attempted a comeback later that year but was ultimately unsuccessful. The 29-year-old has since carved out a niche as an assistant coach and his return to the Ravens should help him continue to climb up the coaching ladder.

At the very least, it’s nice to see him back in Baltimore.

The Ravens still have openings at both outside linebackers coach and tight ends coach following the departures of Drew Wilkins and Bobby Engram. Expect those to be filled in the coming days.

Zach Orr is back in Baltimore. And Ravens fans couldn’t be happier.
