The Baltimore Ravens went into the 2022 NFL Draft with a number of important positions of need to address. However, at the conclusion of the three-day event, the team opted not to add a linebacker during the draft.

They looked to remedy that following the draft officially signing veteran linebacker Vince Biegel to a one-year deal on Monday. Biegel isn’t exactly going to move the needle much, but he does help fill an important depth role at a position of need.

The Ravens brought back veteran Josh Bynes in the offseason and he’ll join 2020 first-round pick Patrick Queen in a linebacker corps that has some question marks entering the season.

Biegel not only provides valuable veteran experience, but he also has the versatility to play either inside or outside linebacker. He should find a home in defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald’s defense.

A fourth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2017 NFL Draft, Biegel spent just one injury-riddled season in Green Bay before being cut the following year.

He spent the 2018 season with the New Orleans Saints where he played in 14 games before he was traded to the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2019 season. In Miami, Biegel finally received a chance to play as a full-time starter.

The former Wisconsin standout played a career-high 15 games, making 10 starts and earning a very respectable Pro Football Focus grade of 69.8 that ranked 40th out of 106 qualified linebackers in 2019.

He hoped to carry that momentum over into the subsequent season, but a torn Achilles suffered in the preseason halted any progress he had made.

Another injury-riddled 2021 season where he only played five games followed and the Dolphins opted not to re-sign him at the end of the year.

Biegel has proven to be a capable special-teamer throughout his career and has experience both as a 3-4 outside and inside linebacker. That versatility should help him find a role on the roster.

Ultimately, this signing won’t make or break the Ravens’ season. But Vince Biegel is an important veteran depth addition who could carve out a role in 2022. A worthwhile signing for Baltimore.
