Ravens’ QB Matchup No. 1: Joe Burrow

Ah, a classic AFC North rivalry matchup. Lamar Jackson vs. Joe Burrow. Twice.

The young Cincinnati Bengals quarterback achieved the level of success the Ravens hoped for in 2021, and Baltimore quickly realized the Bengals were no longer the same “bungling” Bengals.

In two games against the Ravens last year, Burrow threw for 941 yards and seven touchdowns. The caveat, of course, is that the second matchup featured the Ravens’ practice squad secondary and Burrow never took his foot off the pedal.

Baltimore has since heavily upgraded its pass defense, but Cincy has improved its offensive line and threatens to be just as dangerous in 2022.

Whereas the Bills and Bucs games may likely be low-scoring close games, the Ravens-Bengals could see blowouts for either side. Can Chase, Higgins, and Boyd stay productive against Baltimore’s star-studded secondary? Can Jackson generate enough chemistry with his young and relatively unproven receiver corps?

The Ravens face the Bengals in Week 5 and Week 18, and the latter matchup could turn out to be the most critical game of the season with playoffs on the line.

Burrow entered the elite quarterback conversation with his spectacular Super Bowl-reaching comeback year, and Jackson would do well to figure out how to launch his own bounce-back season in 2022.

Barring another injury crisis, Baltimore won’t be so easily embarrassed by their AFC North rivals this year — Lamar Jackson will make sure of that.
