Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins has really high MVP odds for the 2022 season
By Justin Fried
The Baltimore Ravens are looking forward to the return of running back J.K. Dobbins in 2022. Dobbins was forced to miss the entire 2021 season after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
The hope, however, is that Dobbins can return to pre-injury form this season and make up for lost time. Some even believe he could be on the verge of stardom this year.
Perhaps those same people are the ones who make the MVP odds because Dobbins has been soaring up the MVP rankings this summer.
Per WynnBet, Dobbins currently sits at +7,500 odds to win the MVP award in 2022, and while that may not seem very high, the only running backs with better odds are Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor.
Evidently, the oddsmakers seem to believe that Dobbins will be able to quickly shake off the injury rust and take that next step in 2022. The Ravens hope that’ll be the case as well.
Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is an MVP dark horse in 2022
A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Dobbins put together a very impressive rookie season that saw him finish with 805 yards and nine touchdowns on a healthy 6.0 yards per carry that led all NFL running backs.
Many believed that Dobbins could break out as one of the best running backs in the league this past season, but that was before he suffered a torn ACL in the Ravens’ final preseason game.
One year later, Dobbins is looking to pick up right where he left off.
While a legitimate MVP run seems unlikely given recent history, there’s no reason why Dobbins shouldn’t be able to find plenty of success in 2022.
The last running back to win an MVP came back in 2012 after Adrian Peterson’s 2,000-yard season with the Minnesota Vikings. It might take that type of a season for another running back to win the award.
Perhaps a run at league MVP isn’t entirely realistic, but it says a lot that the only running backs with better odds are Henry and Taylor. That places Dobbins among some elite company.
The betting odds seem to suggest that J.K. Dobbins could be set for a monster 2022 season. The Ravens are sure hoping that’s the case.
