Ravens CB Marcus Peters will go

As much as this pains to say, Ravens’ cornerback Marcus Peters may very likely leave Baltimore in 2023.

Peters, who has the fifth-most expensive contract on the team, is set to enter free agency in 2023 and may find a team that needs him more and pays him more next year.

The Ravens’ secondary in 2022 is set to look the best it has in years with Peters and Humphrey at cornerback and a combination of Chuck Clark, Marcus Williams, and Kyle Hamilton at safety.

While Humphrey’s contract won’t run out until 2027, Peters has yet to renegotiate a deal with the Ravens and the Ravens may be already on the lookout for his replacement.

Whether that means selecting a first-round cornerback in the 2023 draft or promoting an in-house talented youngster like Jalyn Armour-Davis, Peters’ spot on the roster is looking more precarious than ever.

Since being traded to Baltimore in 2019, Peters has put together an impressive two seasons with 52 tackles, 19 passes defended, and seven interceptions. He’s an undeniably elite defender in the backfield, but the stark reality is that he and the Ravens may not be able to agree on a future deal.

Nearing 30 years old and coming off a season-ending ACL tear, Peters will have to prove he can remain reliable, rather than liable, in the Ravens’ defense this year. Otherwise, Baltimore may be looking to move on from the aging star corner.
