Ravens player No. 2: Marcus Williams
Marcus Williams feasted on the Jets’ offense in Week 1, and it looks like the safety is settling in nicely on his new team.
Williams led the Ravens in tackles with 12 total along with one pass defended and one interception which he nearly turned into a touchdown.
The former Saints defender came to Baltimore as a highly touted free agent acquisition, and so far Williams has fit seamlessly in Mike Macdonald’s new defense.
Heading into the 2022 season, the Ravens’ secondary raised some questions not due to lack of talent, but due to how the team would use its defenders.
In Week 1, Baltimore fielded many successful three-safety packages that saw Chuck Clark play closer to the line of scrimmage while Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton played as the two deep safeties.
Against a tougher pass defense, Williams and Hamilton may have struggled a bit more, but against the Jets they had no problem locking down the backfield.
Consider Williams one of the team’s smartest offseason moves in 2022.
