The Baltimore Ravens are undefeated in the first two games of the NFL preseason. They defeated the Indianapolis Colts 24-16 and took care of business against the Dallas Cowboys, blowing them out 31-13.

It is only the preseason, and it can be easy to overreact, but these impressive showings have unveiled areas where the Ravens should have the edge over many opponents in 2025.

Coaching Staff

Baltimore might have the best coaching staff in the league heading into the 2025 regular season. From top to bottom, the team is capable of dominating in all three phases—offense, defense, and special teams.

It all starts with head coach John Harbaugh. He is entering his 18th season with the Ravens, looking to claim his second Super Bowl title. After two preseason games, it appears he is set to lead another dominant team, aided by two great coordinators.

Harbaugh’s staff has always excelled, but this year’s group may be his best yet. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken leads a high-powered offense, with depth on full display in recent weeks. Regardless of who carries the ball, they threaten for big plays. With much of the unit returning, Baltimore should again top the league offensively.

On the defensive side, Zach Orr is making significant progress in his young career as the defensive coordinator. He orchestrated an unfathomable turnaround in the second half of 2024, and in the preseason, the unit is once again harassing opposing offenses. They are getting it done, rushing the passer, stopping the run, and even taking the ball away, which is an area they struggled with last year.

With another year of league-wide dominance on the way, Monken and Orr will undoubtedly be on the radar to become head coaches.

Secondary

Everyone knew the secondary was going to vastly improve from where they were last year. After giving up the second-most passing yards in the league, the group now looks to be the best in the NFL. That is due in part to the starting talent, but the depth is insane.

With most of the starters benched for the Ravens’ first two preseason games, many defensive backs fighting for reps and a roster spot have gotten a ton of run. They have not disappointed. Whether they be rookies or second or third-year players, the group is wrecking opposing passing offenses.

Jalyn Armour-Davis, Reuben Lowery, and Keyon Martin have been a few of the standouts in this department. They have been everywhere on the field: hauling in interceptions, locking down wideouts, and making plays at the line of scrimmage. You name it, and they are doing it. Unfortunately, many of these talented players will not make the roster, but that speaks volumes about how much depth is in Baltimore’s secondary this year.

Young Talent

It is early, but Baltimore’s young players are already impressing. With a stacked roster, many may not get the recognition or playtime they deserve, but they are showing promise in the preseason.

Rookie pass rusher Mike Green is getting the most attention of the bunch. He is making high-effort plays, firing off the line of scrimmage with explosiveness and affecting the offense with his nonstop motor. He has yet to tally a sack, but he has been in on a handful of plays.

Other key contributors on the defensive side thus far have been Lowery, Martin, and Jay Higgins. On offense, it was the Devontez Walker and Corey Bullock show against the Cowboys. Rasheen Ali and LaJohntay Wester have also been making statements, seemingly locking up spots on the 53-man roster.

With their talent, depth, and coaching, the Ravens are poised to dominate in 2025. All signs point toward this being a defining season, with Baltimore ready to capture the Lombardi Trophy for the first time since 2012.
