The Baltimore Ravens pulled off one of the craziest moves in NFL offseason history. After initially acquiring Maxx Crosby, they caught the entire NFL world off guard by backing out of the trade. Instead, it will be Trey Hendrickson who is expected to join the Ravens. He agreed to terms on a four-year, $112 million contract.
Whether teams like how the business was conducted or not, the Ravens now have a premier pass rusher. They also get a player they believe has fewer health concerns, who can bring similar juice off the edge to that of Crosby.
A player of Hendrickson’s caliber was desperately needed. Not only did Baltimore only tally 30 sacks last year, but they hired a defensive genius in Jesse Minter to be their head coach. A coach like Minter needs a superstar on the defensive line, and Hendrickson should be a game-changer.
Baltimore Ravens’ Trey Hendrickson agreement is perfect addition for Jesse Minter’s defense
Minter was itching for a guy like Hendrickson. Baltimore’s aggression to land a pass rusher early this offseason made that crystal clear. It’s already been one of the more aggressive offseasons in their recent history, and with Minter now in charge, there’s a clear wake-up call for a defense that was simply abysmal in 2025.
The unit last year ranked tied for third-worst in the NFL in sacks. Minter, on the other hand, had some of the best pass-rushing units in his two years as defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. In 2024, Minter’s group had 46 sacks (tied for sixth), and in 2025, they had 45 (tied for 10th).
Evidently, Minter’s defenses thrive on bringing pressure, and a move for Hendrickson had to be made. It completely changes the game. Giving the 42-year-old an elite pass rusher like Hendrickson should strike fear into any team on Baltimore’s schedule in 2026. The pairing is a match made in heaven.
Before Hendrickson, and I guess Crosby, the only true presences off the edge were Mike Green and Tavius Robinson. And neither of them is anything spectacular yet. Green has a ton of potential, but has a long way to go, and while Robinson is a solid option, he’s not a consistent enough playmaker in passing situations. Hendrickson brings an immediate boost and should benefit the production of both Green and Robinson.
Despite all the fallout from the questionable Crosby decision and their pivot to Hendrickson, the Ravens should come out of the smoke with a smile on their face. The biggest winner of it all is Jesse Minter. He’s got himself a sack artist with 81 career sacks to his name.
