The Baltimore Ravens have entered the offseason with a roster in desperate need of reconstruction. They have some elite talent, but various positions need to be reloaded. Most of that resides on the defense.
Baltimore’s defense has been horrifically inconsistent over the past two seasons. Under new head coach Jesse Minter, they’ll be looking to put a heavy emphasis on that side of the football. The biggest area of need? Pass rush.
The Ravens tallied just 30 sacks in 2025, which was tied for third-worst in the NFL. They failed to generate much pressure, giving opposing quarterbacks all the time in the world to pick apart the secondary. Minter will need a proven piece opposite of rookie outside linebacker Mike Green, but could also use rotational help.
Michigan’s edge rusher, Derrick Moore, is a prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft that the Ravens could target. A Baltimore, Maryland native, Moore put on a show with the Wolverines. He finished his four-year tenure with 21 sacks, capping off a strong college career with 10 sacks in 2025.
Now, Moore is quickly becoming a coveted edge rusher prospect.

Positives
- Impressive blend of quickness and strength.
- Efficient converting speed to power, consistently crashes the pocket, and makes opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable.
- Consistent tackler in space.
- Quick feet allow him to bend the edge and beat opposing offensive tackles to their spots.
Moore possesses the ideal size and arm length for a pass rusher. He pairs that well with some exceptional quickness off the line of scrimmage that he immediately uses to make opposing offensive linemen pay. Week in and week out, he tormented his opponents with his ability to convert speed to power and bottle up quarterbacks in the pocket. He can also be used in several ways on the defensive line, most notably disrupting opponents on stunts.
Negatives
- Lacks consistent counters to discard blocks.
- If bull rush and speed fail, his ability to win at the point of attack fades.
- Needs a more diverse pass rush plan.
- Flashes in run defense, but overall very limited, struggles to get off and collapse lanes quickly.
Moore is very raw. He relies heavily on speed and power, making it a struggle when an offensive lineman stops him in his tracks. His hands lack a bit of urgency, and he doesn’t show a consistent ability to counter and fight off blocks. In the run game, his motor flashes, but his inability to consistently shed blockers allows ballcarriers to find positive gains.
Derrick Moore NFL Player Comparison: Derick Hall
Moore plays a bit like former Auburn star and current Seattle Seahawks defensive end Derick Hall. They both bring that burst off the line of scrimmage, which translates into an impressive bull rush. Similar to Moore, Hall lacked a diverse pass rush plan coming out of Auburn, and both flashed as run defenders but were limited in that facet.

Moore is a high upside prospect. He possesses the size, quickness, and power that should make him a coveted day-two target, but he needs a ton of development. His technique is simply not even close to NFL standards at this point.
The perfect fit for Moore would be landing with a defensive-minded head coach who will utilize his natural gifts to their fullest potential.
