While the Baltimore Ravens look different entering 2026, it’s also true that there are many familiar faces. In fact, a number of the moves that they’ve made this offseason have been reunions.

On the coaching staff, the returns of Jesse Minter and Anthony Weaver were two of the most notable additions of the past several months. That theme also continued on the roster. The Ravens’ first signing in free agency was John Simpson. And one of their most recent? Calais Campbell.

Campbell returned to Charm City on a one-year, $5.5 million deal. Even at 39 years old, he remains a dominant force in the middle of the defensive line. And while this could be his final season, he’s looking to showcase the tenacity and dominance to earn a contract next year if he wants it.

That mentality could bring a massive jolt to Baltimore’s defense.

Baltimore Ravens’ veteran is playing with a little extra motivation in 2026

Calais Campbell was already going to bring the juice. He has six Pro Bowls to his name, and has proven age is pretty much a non-factor, posting at least five sacks in each of the past four seasons. That’ll certainly help a Baltimore defense that clearly had more than its fair share of struggles in 2025.

But if Campbell can continue to age like a fine wine and play with that extra motivation in what could end up being a farewell tour, the Ravens may suddenly go from one of the worst to one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. At this point, everyone knows he’s going to be a solid contributor, but by the sound of it, Campbell will be playing with a little more fire. That could help push the team over the line and into the playoffs.

Even beyond his play, though, there’s an important quality that Campbell possesses. Perhaps the 18-year veteran’s best trait is his outstanding leadership. He knows how to get the defense amped up. The 39-year-old should help develop guys like Travis Jones, Mike Green, and Zion Young. He’s also loud and proud, which will certainly boost communication and energy from snap to snap.

Ultimately, it’s great to see Campbell back in the purple and black. The Ravens’ defense had some of its best years when Campbell was on the defensive front, and while he’ll turn 40 during this stint, his passion and ability are still there. As he gears up for potentially his last ride, fans should look for him to go out on the best terms possible. And if that’s the case, Baltimore’s defense could get a major boost.
