The Baltimore Ravens will likely be bargain-bin hunting for the rest of free agency. General manager Eric DeCosta has said they’re probably done making big splashes after signing Trey Hendrickson. That means it’ll likely be cheaper, under-the-radar signings from here on out.

The Ravens are still in the market for positions, including edge rusher, interior defensive line, wide receiver, and tight end. When it comes to edge rusher, it wouldn’t be a shock if Baltimore opted to overload at that spot. They reportedly intended to pair Hendrickson with Maxx Crosby before they opted to back out of that trade, so it feels like another addition or two could be on the way.

With Hendrickson and 2025 third-round pick Mike Green leading the way off the edge right now, the Ravens will be looking for another rotational option. 2019 first-round pick Clelin Ferrell could play a role in new head coach Jesse Minter’s rotation.

Baltimore Ravens could get the best bang for their buck with potential Clelin Ferrell addition

Ferrell’s career has been a bit underwhelming. After being selected fourth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, he struggled to find much of a rhythm with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has since played with the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders. None of those tenures has led to much success at all, but he’s managed to stick around in the NFL for seven years for a reason. Last year also showed some promise.

Ferrell’s 2025 had a very rough start, getting cut by the Commanders before the regular season and later by the Chargers in October. However, that excruciating start to the campaign was a bit of a blessing in disguise. He found his way back to the 49ers and had a respectable finish to the year. He had four sacks in eight games, which was actually tied for the team lead by the end of the season.

Although Ferrell wouldn’t be much of a game-changer, he’s proven he can be a viable option as a rotational veteran. The Ravens tallied just 30 sacks last year, which was tied for third-worst in the league. They should be looking for a near-complete revamp of the pass rush room, and Ferrell could be a piece to add to build a strong floor for the pressure presence in 2026.

Ultimately, Ferrell shouldn’t cost that much. Spotrac expects him to sign a two-year deal worth around $9.4 million. He would provide a little extra juice with occasional snaps, being a worthy backup to the likes of Hendrickson, Green, and Tavius Robinson. In this scenario, the Ravens could still seek out one more piece, but Ferrell would help tie it all together.
