An intriguing decision.

The Baltimore Ravens only have a few more hires to go before completing Jesse Minter’s coaching staff for the 2026 season. In his first year as head coach, Minter and the Ravens have quickly built a stout group.

It’s refreshing to see Minter bring in his own guys, and not only coaches he worked with before coming to Charm City. At the same time, though, he’s hiring names that have carved out similar careers. Some coaches have worked with Notre Dame, Michigan, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Ravens, bringing similar philosophies, approaches, and leadership styles.

Overall, there’s a strong blend of proven leaders and up-and-coming playcallers and position coaches. However, one of the team’s most recent hires is a curious move. On Friday evening, reports indicated that Zack Grossi would be joining the staff as the tight ends coach. The interesting part: Grossi has very little experience coaching specifically tight ends. The only time he coached that position group was at the Senior Bowl in 2023.

Ravens intriguing Zack Grossi signals another high-ceiling move for Jesse Minter’s staff

Clearly, it’s another high ceiling move for Minter’s staff. Grossi served as the passing game specialist for the Denver Broncos from 2024 to 2025 and as their offensive quality coach from 2022 to 2023. Now, at 36 years old, Grossi earns a promotion on a young Minter coaching staff.

There may be some worry, especially given how Baltimore tends to utilize their tight ends. Under former tight ends coach George Godsey from 2022 to 2025, the likes of Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, and Charlie Kolar formed one of the best tight end trios in the NFL. But, unfortunately, Godsey left to become the offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. Now, Grossi takes his place. Although he doesn’t have much experience as a tight end coach in particular, this landing spot makes a ton of sense.

Grossi is another addition from the Sean Payton coaching tree. Who wouldn’t want a young coach with experience learning from one of the best head coaches in recent history? He joined the Broncos in 2022 and remained with the team when Payton was named head coach in 2023. It’s also Grossi’s relationship with Declan Doyle that makes this an easy fit.

That time Grossi spent in Denver also includes working with Baltimore’s new offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle. Coincidentally, Doyle was the tight ends coach during that time they spent together from 2023 to 2024. It's another reunion on this staff.

With another young hire, the message is clear. After firing 18-year head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens not only want to regain that success under Minter but also desire long-term stability. They’re clearly hoping for another strong 18 years led by Minter.
