In recent days, there has been one particular problem that's become bigger and bigger around the NFL, and Baltimore Ravens second-round pick Mike Green is directly involved.
Only two 2025 second rounders have signed their rookie deals, and training camp is around the corner. With Green still being unsigned, that would leave him off the field to begin camp, which would give 2023 fourth-round pick Tavius Robinson quite the lift.
But, why has Green not signed his deal? Well, as this is written, 30 of 32 second rounders have not signed and it stems directly from the Houston Texans starting what players are hoping to be a trend. They gave Jayden Higgins a fully-guaranteed contract, which then led the Cleveland Browns doing the same with Carson Schwesinger.
Now, Green and many others want the same.
Tavius Robinson would benefit greatly from a Mike Green holdout at Ravens training camp
If Green is unable to be out there for the start of camp, that means Robinson is then the next man up in the rotation, which could help him continue the offseason he's had thus far.
Over the past couple of months, it seems Robinson has heard all of the chatter about the Ravens having needed another pass rusher in their rotation. He's received plenty of praise for his work this offseason and appears ready for a potential breakout.
It seems Robinson has taken those opinions personal, as though he wants to prove that this team didn't need to add another notable pass rusher, because he's ready to take over. The former Mississippi standout posted 3.5 sacks last year after he saw his snap percentage rise to 43 percent on defense.
Training camp might just be the next chapter in his eventual breakout, especially if Green is unable to begin camp on the field. This second-round pick problem has become a real issue around the league, and of course Green isn't the only one who is in the conversation.
Now, for the sake of the Ravens, specifically, let's hope a deal gets done sooner rather than later. Either way, I have a feeling Robinson is going to be ready to prove himself no matter who is on that field.
