The Baltimore Ravens’ defensive front is becoming very crowded. After a horrific performance from that group in 2025, Eric DeCosta paid considerable attention to beefing it up this offseason. There’s a major influx of talent that’s walked through the door.

In free agency, the Ravens added pass rush extraordinaire Trey Hendrickson off the edge and 18-year veteran Calais Campbell along the interior. In the 2026 NFL Draft, they used their second-round pick on Zion Young and a seventh-round pick on Rayshaun Benny. With all those fresh faces, Aeneas Peebles may find himself entrenched in a position battle.

It sounds like Peebles is doing everything in his power to win that battle. In an article for BaltimoreRavens.com, Ryan Mink highlighted Peebles’ determination heading into the new season. Perhaps the most encouraging development is with his physique. Mink wrote:

"“While Aeneas is working to improve as a run defender, rushing the passer is his calling card as a twitchy lineman who is adept at shooting gaps. While he's shorter than his peers at 6-foot-0, Aeneas has added more bulk this offseason, going from the 285-287-pound range to 295-299.”"

That’s massive news.

Baltimore Ravens’ second-year defender could turn the corner after notable evolution

We already know that Aeneas Peebles has the potential to be a game-changer on pass-rushing downs. It’s what makes his ceiling so captivating. He matches a relentless motor with impressive quickness from an interior defensive lineman. It can make him a tough matchup if he finds early leverage. However, his run-stopping ability is miles behind. That could change based on Mink’s report, though.

For a player whose biggest knock has been his size, packing on an extra 10 pounds could change everything for Peebles. He barely saw the field in his rookie campaign, and much of that was due to the fact that he had a slight frame for a defensive lineman. When you’re 6-feet tall with a frame under 290 pounds, you’re probably going to be a liability in the run game. Thankfully, it sounds like things are about to shift.

While it may seem like a modest gain on paper, this is a huge win for the second-year pro. As Peebles stared down more competition for snaps, he needed to do something that could make him more than just a pass-rush-only player. A frame closer to 300 pounds could do that. He already had natural strength and great contact balance, and now, he has a bit closer to what coaches desire in terms of size, too.

Regardless, Peebles will likely be a rotational player at most in 2026. He has a lot to prove, and with a new coaching staff, he’s got more people to impress. But that might be a good thing given how he was treated by the prior coaching staff. And if his 295-299-pound frame can make him even the slightest factor against the run, then he should have plenty of reps in front of him.
