On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens were hit with a major scare. Cornerback Nate Wiggins went down in practice with an apparent left leg injury after covering rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane in one-on-ones.
Following practice, head coach Jesse Minter mentioned Wiggins is still getting looked at. He said there is some optimism, but he’s not ready to comment until they get more feedback from tests.
“I think there’s optimism, but we’ll look at it and see where it’s at,” Minter said. “Not much between the two guys in the play, whether it was hitting the ground or whatever it was; we’ll see what it looks like.”
Unfortunately, this is one of the positions that the Ravens can’t really afford an injury. The secondary was a mess in 2025, and while there’s a ton of potential in that room, the top-tier talent is certainly questionable. Now, the team is holding its breath waiting for an update on Wiggins, who is easily their best corner.

Wiggins is expected to be Baltimore’s CB1 this year. Many signs point to him making the jump to becoming a lockdown corner, but the injury may throw a massive wrench into things. It’s a concerning situation right now in Charm City.
In the unfortunate circumstance that Wiggins misses time in 2026, the Ravens would need Marlon Humphrey and Chidobe Awuzie to step up. Humphrey needs to prove he’s still a reliable starting corner, and Awuzie needs to avoid injuries and regression as he enters his age-31 season.
Then, T.J. Tampa would be the man who steps into the starting equation if Wiggins is out for a while.
The good news? Tampa appears to be taking massive strides at camp and was already in position for an uptick in snaps this season.
The bad news? Tampa is still an unproven corner. Sure, he flashed in 2025, but was still inconsistent and has seen little playing time on defense through two seasons—just 165 snaps to be exact.
For a team looking to contend for a Super Bowl in 2026, losing Wiggins would have the makings of an impending disaster. Don’t get me wrong, Tampa is talented, and safety Kyle Hamilton could rotate down and help hide the potential issue, but Wiggins can be a game-changer on the boundary. An already questionable cornerback group could take a massive hit.
Minter has said he is confident in the team’s cornerbacks, but regardless, this is an injury to a player that Baltimore can’t afford to lose.
