The Baltimore Ravens had horrendous injury luck in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was maybe the worst game ever in terms of injuries suffered. Lamar Jackson, Ronnie Stanley, Roquan Smith, Marlon Humphrey, and Nate Wiggins all went down with injuries and did not return on Sunday.

While Head Coach John Harbaugh provided updates on Nnamdi Madubuike’s and Broderick Washington’s injuries—Madubuike will miss the rest of 2025, and Washington should return—he did not offer information on those injured in Week 4. He did note that none appear to be season-ending, but recent reports regarding their injured stars have Ravens fans concerned about the team’s status over the next couple of weeks.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport revealed that Humphrey is expected to miss a couple of weeks due to the calf injury he suffered on Sunday. He also noted Baltimore’s list of injuries appears to be week-to-week.

Rapoport also added that Smith will likely be out for a few weeks due to a hamstring strain that was diagnosed as a Grade 2 strain, according to his sources.

Ravens expected to be without defensive stars for multiple weeks

Humphrey and Smith, despite their slow starts, are vital to turning this defense around. At this point, any attempt to do so seems futile, given that they have given up a league-worst 133 points, but with so much talent and experience, it is possible. However, with two stars expected to be out of action for a while, they will be fighting for their football lives in the coming weeks.

At cornerback, the unit is quickly becoming depleted. Baltimore appeared to carry one of the best secondaries in the NFL ahead of the 2025 regular season, but injuries have taken a toll on the group. Jaire Alexander has continued to have knee problems since signing, and Humphrey’s and Wiggins’ injuries could force an inexperienced group out there in Week 5 and Week 6. Second-year pro T.J. Tampa and undrafted rookie Keyon Martin will likely get serious reps.

If Smith is out as long as Rapoport reported, the Ravens will rely on rookie Teddye Buchanan and 2023 third-round pick Trenton Simpson to lead the middle of the field. Buchanan quickly earned a starting spot on the defense in Week 2, and while Simpson fell behind on the depth chart, he now walks back into a starting opportunity.

Baltimore faces the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Rams in the coming games before their bye week in Week 7. The Texans have struggled on offense, but the duo of C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins is capable of going off. For the Rams game, the young defense will have its hands full against veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

If the injuries play out as expected, the Ravens will have a ton of youth starting on their defense, which could spell trouble for an already horrendous group. They need Humphrey and Smith to heal up quickly if they want to revive this season.
