Injuries are a part of the game. No NFL team escapes a season without being ravaged by injuries, keeping their players out for crucial time. Unfortunately for the Baltimore Ravens, they are coming fast and furious.
The most recent member to be added to their already lengthy injury list is rookie cornerback Robert Longerbeam. The former Rutgers standout was placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR) during Sunday’s practice. He had been out with an injury since July 31, when he collided with fellow 2025 NFL Draft classmate LaJohntay Wester.
The reason for his injury remained unknown for a while, but the designation for his IR stint is a knee injury. This is the second rookie corner to go on season-ending IR, as Bilhal Kone was lost for the season after tearing a ligament in his knee during Baltimore’s Week 1 preseason matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
The news comes as a surprise to many. The initial reports surrounding the sixth-round selection were incredibly silent. Now, Longerbeam will have to wait until 2026 to showcase his talents.
Head Coach John Harbaugh gave an odd response to the questions about Longerbeam’s IR designation. During his press conference following Sunday’s practice, he could not dive into the specifics on what occurred with the 24-year-old.
“It’s a long story,” Harbaugh said. “Just a long story. I really couldn’t even explain it to you. As much as I might want to, I couldn’t explain it to you. It is what it is.”
Robert Longerbeam to miss all of 2025
Jordan Schultz reported that Longerbeam suffered a torn patella tendon. However, Harbaugh’s cloudy address on the matter has people raising eyebrows. Regardless, it changes the landscape of Baltimore’s potential 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.
The Ravens have a deep secondary. There is starting-caliber talent four deep, and younger players like Jalyn Armour-Davis and T.J. Tampa could take significant steps forward in 2025. Undrafted signing Reuben Lowery could also sneak in and earn some reps now.
Still, losing Kone and Longerbeam hurts the depth and special teams unit. The team signed M.J. Devonshire, a 2024 seventh-round pick, on Saturday, and more help could be coming.
