The Baltimore Ravens are having one heck of an offseason. Free agency hasn’t even kicked off yet, many extensions have yet to be agreed upon, but there have been some overwhelmingly positive changes. The coaching staff has seen a complete 180-degree flip.
It all started when the Ravens fired John Harbaugh and hired Jesse Minter. Minter was one of the top candidates on the market, and nearly everyone loved the move. Still, the 42-year-old had a steep hill to climb to prove himself, and still does. The hires he has made in his brief time as head coach, though, are quickly showing that he is not messing around. Each move keeps getting better.
On Monday, Baltimore named Anthony Weaver as their defensive coordinator. Weaver was the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, but with Jeff Hafley coming in as their new head coach, he sought a new opportunity. That opportunity ultimately became a reunion in Charm City.
This hire is just more proof that Minter is here to prove himself, and he’s here to win.

Of course, everything Minter has done up to this point means nothing if the team doesn’t perform well on the field. However, he’s pushing all the right buttons. Just a few weeks into his head coaching tenure, he is doing everything in his power to set the Ravens up for success in 2026.
While Minter will be calling the plays on defense this season, he gets an excellent defensive coordinator to work with. Weaver is a mind that is already very familiar with the Ravens’ culture, both as a player and a coach.
He played in Charm City from 2002 to 2005, and coached there from 2021 to 2023. He knows what it takes to be successful in the AFC North and knows how much of a privilege it is to wear the black and purple. There are standards that Ravens are held to, and Weaver will undoubtedly be ready to meet them.
This feels like a job Weaver has been itching to take for a while. He was a part of the defensive coordinator search back in 2024, as the team was looking to replace Mike Macdonald. They gave the job to Zach Orr, and Weaver landed on his feet with the Miami Dolphins as their defensive coordinator.
In two years with the Dolphins, Weaver showed promise. In 2024, his group finished fourth in yards allowed per game and ninth in points allowed per game. In 2025, they struggled significantly, falling comfortably in the bottom half of the NFL in both those categories. That season saw Miami’s defense lack talent, though. In Baltimore, Weaver will have some All-Pro-level talent at his disposal.
Ultimately, Weaver was a top candidate this coaching cycle. He was a finalist for the Ravens and Arizona Cardinals head coaching gigs. He is clearly a coach that players respond well to, which is exactly what Baltimore needed. As Minter nears completing his coaching staff, it looks like he netted another home run coordinator.
